John Walshaw

Biography

John Walshaw is Senior Bioinformatician in the Gut Health and Food Safety Institute Strategic Programme (GHFS). As well as advising on and implementing best bioinformatics practices within the programme in general, he also work closely with individual research groups on a variety of projects. In particular, this involves analysis of various kinds of sequence data from the gut microbiome, such as marker genes and metagenomic data. As well as high volumes of sequence data, these studies can involve several cohorts with multiple variables relating to genotype, phenotype, age, diet and other factors; there is also an increasing focus on longitudinal studies within the programme.
