Biography
I am a part-time lecturer within the nursing department at QMU with a specific remit for the PgDip Person-Centred Practice (Health Visiting). I am module coordinator for the module ‘Child Development 2’ which explores the concepts, principles and theories underpinning person-centred practice within the context of childhood development. I also co-facilitate a programme of continuing professional development for all qualified Health Visitors / Family Nurses throughout Lothian, Borders and Fife. My academic work and research interests are usefully informed by my other part-time role as a Health Visitor within NHS Lothian.
Research Interest
My masters dissertation was titled ‘How teenagers experience their role as parents whilst in, or having progressed through, local authority care: A thematic analysis’. 14 key themes evidenced the complexities associated with this phenomenon. I am interested in progressing this research further to determine how teenage parents who have progressed through the care system might be best supported as they transition into their parenting role.
