Biography

Jessica D. Larsen has been Principal Investigator for numerous research grants from federal agencies, such as NASA, NSF, DOE, EPA, as well as State agencies. He has published 36 peer-reviewed research papers and book chapters, as well as numerous conference papers and reports, on the application of GIS and remote sensing to a wide range of ecological applications including invasive species, floristic diversity, and habitat mapping. Dr. McGwire was a member of three specialist meetings held by the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis on the Integration of Remote Sensing and GIS, the Roles of GIS in the U.S. Global Change Research Program, and a Remote Sensing Core Curriculum. He was a member of two specialist meetings held by the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis on the Quantification of Uncertainty in Spatial Data for Ecological Applications and the Spatial Ecology of Infectious Disease. He served on the Technical Advisory Committee for the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency on the Tahoe Integrated Information Management System. He was a member of the science team for NASA’s Earth-Observing-1 satellite, testing space-borne hyperspectral mapping of invasive species.  Dr. McGwire has experience collaborating across a wide range of disciplines, successfully competing as PI on grants with scientists ranging from paleontologists to glaciologists to microbiologists.
