Biography
Mike spent a number of years working in the mental health field in a variety of settings including day centre, supported accommodation and residential. He undertook his Social Work training via a distance learning route. After qualifying Mike worked for Aberdeen City Council within its Criminal Justice Social Work Department. He was involved in a full range of activities in respect of Court services, assessment and management of risk, structured intervention programmes, multi-disciplinary and inter-agency working. He also developed a degree of specialisation in working with the increasing numbers of migrant workers in the north east of Scotland who come into contact with the Criminal Justice system. He was also involved with the joint Criminal Justice Social Work/Substance Misuse Service project which offered a drug treatment and prescribing service to CJSW clients. Mike undertook a Post Qualifying Award in Social Work and since early 2007 has been working at Robert Gordon University as a Lecturer in Social Work. Mike teaches a number of subjects but retains a focus on delivering Criminal Justice teaching to undergraduate, post-graduate and distance learning students. He is currently a Learning Enhancement Co-ordinator (LEC). Mike is also a qualified Practice Teacher role and supervises students on CJSW placement placements.
