Biography
Peter Reid is a Professor of Librarianship and Information Management. He is also a former President of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professional Scotland He is responsible for the academic direction of the Information Management discipline within the University. He leads the Managing Library Services module to students on MSc Information and Library Studies. He is an active researcher in the fields of library history and historical bibliography as well as local studies librarianship. He has taught at Robert Gordon University since 1998.
Research Interest
Peter is a member of the Information & Communication research group within Aberdeen Business School. His principal research interests are in: Historical bibliography: particularly the history of libraries, focusing on the history of the country house / private library and the (historical) book collecting of individuals and families. Local studies / local history collections within libraries: their scope, purpose, uniqueness and contribution to local, regional and national identity and collective or cultural memory. Management and quality of public libraries; he has recently led the review and revision of the Public Library Quality Improvement Matrix which is used to measure the quality of Scottish public libraries on behalf of the Scottish Library and Information Council. Digital developments in (library) heritage provision: examining utilization of online technologies to bring together virtual representations of the past (including e-genealogy and the "ancestral cultural tourist).
