Biography
Starting his career at the Robert Gordon University in 1993 as a Project Manager in the School of Public Administration and Law, Professor Peter Strachan's contribution to research and professional practice was recognised by the University when he was awarded the title of Professor in 2009. Professor Strachan was subsequently appointed to the role of Strategy and Policy Group Lead at Aberdeen Business School in 2010. His Subject Leader role involves the management of 20 academic staff including setting objectives and planning staff teaching and research activities, and staff resources. Further it involves the quality assurance of modules delivered by Strategy and Policy staff and the review and update of the portfolio of Strategy and Policy modules on offer across the University. In recent years he has transformed the Strategy and Policy Group to have as their core focus international strategy and management in the energy industries and has played a pivotal role in the success of the Department of Management. In addition to his senior role within Aberdeen Business School Professor Strachan has led, project managed or been a team member in a number of collaborative and other ESRC funded research projects with Universities such as St Andrews, Birmingham, Cardiff, Aberdeen, and Queens University, Belfast. External to RGU Professor Strachan has been an advisor to the Cypriot government on oil and gas education. Further he has recently completed a five-year term as an external examiner at the internationally renowned Cass Business School, where he worked closely with them on the future direction and quality assurance of one of their flagship courses. Professor Strachan has been a member of the ESRC Peer Review College since its inception and further serves on a number of internationally recognised editorial boards. Finally, as a founding member of the International Sustainable Development Research Society he served for a number of years on their Executive Management Board.
Research Interest
Professor Peter Strachan is a leading expert on energy policy. He is active nationally and internationally contributing to a range of professional forums and organisations in the fields of oil and gas, renewables and nuclear power, and is a regular on the conference circuit as a speaker and delegate.
