Biography
Dr Yafan Zhao is a recognised researcher and expert of Video Coding and communications with particular specialization in Performance Optimisation for Video Coding and Communications, Reconfiguration Video Transport, Perceptual Video Coding, Video Coding Standards and Algorithms and Software and Hardware Design. She has written nearly 30 publications, including journal papers, patents and international conference papers. She contributes to the MPEG Reconfigurable Video Coding standards effort and is a regular reviewer for top journals, including IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology. Dr Zhao has successfully managed research projects with a value of over £500K, including an EPSRC project funded by UK EPSRC research council from 2006 to 2011 and a Proof-of-Concept project funded by the Scottish government. She is the co-investigator/primary investigator for the EPSRC project and the co-investigator for the PoC project. She has worked with leading international video communication companies to design and implement video coding algorithms, to optimize video codec performance and to advise on video coding standards.
