Biography
Ulrich Volz is Head of the Department of Economics and a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Economics at SOAS University of London. He is also a Senior Research Fellow at the German Development Institute, Chaire de Recherche Banque de France 2017 at EHESS in Paris, and Honorary Professor of Economics at the University of Leipzig. He is a member of the Advisory Council of the Asian Development Bank Institute in Tokyo, chairman of the Japan Economy Network, and co-editor-in-chief of the Asia Europe Journal. Ulrich has been working with the UN Environment Inquiry into the Design of a Sustainable Financial System since its launch in 2014. He is currently a Co-Investigator in a collaborative research project with Nankai University and Zhejiang University on “Developing financial systems to support sustainable growth in China – The role of innovation, diversity and financial regulation” which is jointly funded by the UK’s Economic and Social Research Council and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Ulrich has taught at Peking University, Kobe University, Hertie School of Governance, Freie Universität Berlin, Central University of Finance and Economics in Beijing, and the Institute of Developing Economies (IDE-JETRO) in Tokyo.
