Biography
Xiaoning Lu obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Chinese language and literature at the Universities of Nanjing and Fudan, China and a PhD in Comparative Literature at Stony Brook University, USA. Before joining SOAS in 2010 she had taught at Stony Brook University and Ludwig-Maximilian University of Munich. At SOAS she teaches courses in modern Chinese literature and cinema. Her research focuses on the complex relationship between cultural production and state governance in modern China. Xiaoning welcomes enquiries for doctoral projects in these (and related) areas: Chinese film history and aesthetics, Chinese socialist cultural production, and various forms of popular culture in contemporary China.
