Biography
Dr Keith Hurst did his psychology degree and PhD in psychology at the University of Leeds, and began lecturing at Hull University in 1999, moving to Sheffield Hallam University in 2001. Dr Hurst is a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS), and an Associate Fellow of the BPS, and while at Sheffield held numerous positions including Programme Director for MSc Health Psychology. As a Principal Lecturer from 2007 he was responsible for the whole postgraduate portfolio and took a lead role in business development for the Psychology Subject Group. During 2009-10 he held two key roles for the Department of Psychology, Sociology and Politics, namely as the Business Development Lead and the Markets and Recruitment Lead, with responsibility for student recruitment, Knowledge Transfer (KT) and external consultancy.
Research Interest
Dr Hurst’s research and scholarly activity is related to his Knowledge Transfer work, with a primary interest in finding ways to help people engage with health enhancing behaviours, and avoid health compromising behaviours. He has co-supervised two successful PhD students to completion, plus numerous MSc Health Psychology dissertations, and has worked as an external and internal PhD examiner.
