Dr Alison Truelove

Lecturer
Critical Practice
The Business School University of Exeter
United Kingdom

Biography

Dr Alison Truelove joined the Business School on a full-time basis in 2016 after contributing for several years on a consultancy basis (and as an adjunct lecturer) to developing the School’s approach to teaching and learning. This included designing and writing the assessment material for the UK’s first professionally-accredited MOOC, Discovering Business and Society (with ACCA on FutureLearn). She has previously held teaching and research positions at the Universities of London and Cambridge, and has taught and published in the areas of historical linguistics, medieval culture and literature, and digital humanities. As the School’s Academic Development Tutor, Alison oversees our students’ transition into higher education, and provides tailored, evidence-based academic development support to encourage every student in the Business School to achieve his or her full potential. She also works with staff to enhance and develop teaching practice, module design and assessment. As Lead Tutor for the Business School, Alison also oversees the Academic Tutor system to ensure that every student is supported by a designated member of academic staff during their studies. Her research interests currently focus on identifying and developing effective interventions to support students’ academic achievement, on designing innovative modes of online learning, and on developing resources to strengthen students’ critical engagement with their learning. Alison is also the UEBS Academic Subject Lead on the HEFCE-funded Transforming Transitions research project, which is investigating potential barriers to success experienced by students with BTEC qualifications as they apply for and enter higher education.
