Biography
Dr Schoubye did his PhD in philosophy in 2011 under the supervision of Herman Cappelen, Josh Dever, and Jonathan Schaffer at the Arché Research Centre at the University of St Andrews. During his PhD and MA, he was a visiting student at the University of Texas at Austin and at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and before coming to Edinburgh, he was a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in Semantics and Pragmatics at Carnegie Mellon University. Dr. Schoubye's dissertation consisted of a series of papers on the meaning and conversational function of definite descriptions, but more recently he has been working on the semantics of proper names, future contingents, and the influence of questions on literal meaning.
