Biography
Prof Wilson obtained his medical degree at the Queen’s University of Belfast in 1984 and embarked on a postgraduate career in paediatrics in the Northern Ireland training scheme, including a Doctor of Medicine degree for a thesis in Neonatal Nutrition. David finished his specialist training in paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition (PGHAN) at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto and the University of Toronto from 1994-1997. In 1997, he was appointed as a Senior Lecturer and Consultant in Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at the University of Edinburgh and the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh. Over the first years in Edinburgh, he set up and provided single-handedly a PGHAN referral service for children in South-East Scotland, a population of 1.25 million and developed the department of PGHAN in Edinburgh, which is now recognised internationally as a leading centre in paediatric gastroenterology and nutrition.
