Research Interest
Dr. Calvert's research examines the impacts bilateral investment treaties have on policy space with a focus on Latin America (Argentina, Peru and Ecuador). She is particularly interested in examining how the conditions and capabilities of the societies, economies and political systems found in signatory countries shape, and are shaped by, the constraints investment treaties aim to impose on government action. She is also interested in exposing the legal and political tools and resources governments and civil society groups use to defend public and political interests from the claims of foreign investors under investment treaties.
