Biography

David Tetlow originally from Manchester in Northern England, coming from an engineering orientated family (involved in the UK Steel industry). he have lived in various parts of the UK, and have been based in Nottingham since 1999. his education is science and engineering based. he undergraduate degree was in in Civil Engineering done in Nottingham Trent University. After a short period in industry he started an MPhil in Applied Energy and Environmental Engineering in 2003 at the same institution, transferring onto a PhD within a year. Graduation from this was in 2008. After completing his doctorate he worked in Environmental Consultancy in London for a year, gaining knowledge of renewable energy systems, energy efficiency methodologies in buildings, and energy policy. After this period he took a career break in 2009, returning to Nottingham to work as a Mathematics Teacher in a challenging inner city secondary school. Since January 2010 he have been employed in the University of Nottingham. he have been involved in three projects; the first - Funded via a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) - involved the development of a super thin internal insulation system for application into UK Hard to Treat Domestic Houses in collaboration with the UK's largest insulation installer (the Mark Group). The second - fund via the Carbon Trust - was based on the application of Phase Change Materials (PCMs) into solar heating systems to increase capacity of domestic systems. his current project - Funded by the EU FP7 framework - is based on the management of an international collaboration with 17 European partners, into researching, developing, and applying a holistic methodology for retrofitting domestic houses. This project (the HERB), also includes the development and application of innovative retrofit technologies that are being tested in 12 demonstration houses across 7 countries, in 3 climates. This is a 3.5 year project that is due for completion April 2016. HERB website - www.euroretrofit.com In addition to research he is also involved with delivery of lecture material, and supervision of dissertation projects of undergrad and post-grad students. also supervising a number of PhD students undertaking engineering based research projects. Finally his role involves the publication of conference and Journal Papers.

Research Interest

Management and delivery of the Holistic Energy-efficient Retrofit of Buildings (HERB) Project - This including the research, development, and application of innovation insulation technologies; design and application of holistic retrofit systems into UK domestic houses; dissemination of material (via conference and journal publications); and, project deliverable and financial management. The HERB is a 3.5 year project with 17 EU based partners across 11 countries - and involves the retrofit of 13 demonstration buildings in 7 EU countries in either cold, temperate or warm climates. The project started in October 2012 and is due for completion April 2016.
