Imran Mohammed

Biography

Dr. Imran Mohammed obtained his Bachelor in Pharmacy (B.Pharm., with Distinction) from the J.N. Technological University, India in 2003. He completed a M.Sc. at the Sheffield Hallam University in 2005 before being appointed at his first research position at the University of Nottingham in 2006. With generous funding from the Fight for Sight, Imran completed his Ph.D. at the University of Nottingham under the supervision of Professor Harminder S. Dua in 2010. Subsequently, he moved to America and spent 4 years as a postdoctoral researcher with Professor Wen-Chao Song at the University of Pennsylvania, USA. He later served as Assistant Professor of Immunology at the Qassim University, KSA for one year. In 2015 he was provided with an exciting opportunity, eponymous senior scientist position, in the field of Ophthalmology, which led him to move back to the University of Nottingham. He is currently working as 'Elizabeth King Research Scientist' with Professor H.S. Dua in the School of Medicine.

Research Interest

a) Synergistic activity of human antimicrobial peptides against microbes isolated from the patient cornea b) Mechanisms involved in down-regulation of human beta-defensin 9 (HBD9) following Pseudomonas aeruginosainfection of corneal epithelial cells c) Measurement of cytokines production in specimen collected from patients on anti-glaucoma drops d) Establish the role of Pre-descemet's layer (Dua's layer) in glaucoma using in vitro primary open-angle glaucoma model
