Biography
Dr. Revati Phalkey holds a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Public Health (DTMPH) and a Masters in International Health from the Humbolt University, Berlin, Germany (2006). She completed the NOHA Masters in International Humanitarian Assistance at the University of Bochum, Germany (2007) with a specialization in Public Health in Emergencies before undertaking a PhD at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg, Germany (2013).
Research Interest
Dr. Phalkey has worked on a wide range of projects in public health in Asia (India, Indonesia, Vietnam, and The Philippines) and Africa (Burkina Faso). Her main research interests include the designing implementation and evaluation of disease surveillance systems, health in emergencies (particularly natural disasters) and malnutrition in children under five and the elderly. Dr. Phalkey has recently started working on the nutritional impacts of climate change and preparedness of health systems to mitigate the impacts of climate change on human health. She is currently leading on the following projects: Assessing the impacts of weather variability (temperature and rainfall) on the all cause and cause specific mortality in Pune city, India (1985-2016) Assessing the impacts of weather variability on crop yields and stunting in children under five in Nouna, rural Burkina Faso (2015-2017) Blueprint for an effective NCD surveillance system for the city of Pune, India funded by the German Research Council (2012-2016) Advances in Research on Globally Accessible Medicine (AROGYAM) investigating the quality of care regulations in India (2013-2016) Lead Supervisor: Assessing the accuracy of early diagnostic tools for the assessment of pneumonia and malaria in children under five in Benin city, Nigeria (PhD thesis Kelly Elimian) Assessing the impact of indoor air pollution on childhood pneumonia in peri-urban Nigera (PhD thesis Enemona Adaji) Assessment of disaster mitigation and preparedness plans of the public healthcare facilities in Saudi Arabia (PhD thesis Roaa Hajjam) A systematic review of the long term impacts of fldengue infection in adults ( MIH thesis Ms Cheryll Smith) Systematic review of diagnostic approaches for Zika at the population level (MIH thesis Mr. Jose Manuel Besares)
