Biography
Emer Bourke Ph.D., joined Ciaran Morrison’s group in February 2003. She began her scientific career in June 1995, graduating with an honours degree in Science from University College Dublin and went on to complete her Ph.D. thesis under the supervision of Dr. Paul N. Moynagh in the Department of Pharmacology, UCD in December 1998. She was awarded a European Union Marie Curie Fellowship which funded her postdoctoral research in the Department of Cellular Biology and Immunology, Istituto Mario Negri, Milano, Italy, under the supervision of Prof. Alberto Mantovani. Her published research to date focuses mainly on the Interleukin-1/Toll system in cells of immune origin. She now diversifies her research interests somewhat by joining Dr. Morrison’s research group with a postdoc. in cellular responses to DNA damage and hopes to one day achieve her dream of being a trapeze artist.
