Biography

Research Interest
My research interests are in Analysis, Partial differential equations, and Applied mathematics (e.g. Modelling of biological systems and Numerics). For the latter an important aspect of applied mathematical methods arises in the study of dynamical systems for biological or other life science problems. Here a model is seeked to describe best the data gathered in experiments. I am interested in the parameter estimation process to help search and validate different model assumptions in gene regulatory networks as well as models for bacteria-phage infection. For the former I am interested in applying mathematical methods from Analysis to Partial differential equations modelling problems in Biology and Materials Science. Often they share a common aspect in the form of propagation phenomena and/or a variational structure. Propagation in many biological models is studied in the form of travelling wave solutions, where I study in particular kinetic transport equations and chemotaxis. In the field of Variational problems in Materials Science I study the dynamics of elastic atomic chains, especially the Fermi-Pasta-Ulam atomic chain with nearest neighbour interaction. Further variational problems arise in geometric analysis, where I am interested in curvature driven flows or stationary states.
