Biography
Nick Gould, now Emeritus Professor, was the University of Bath’s first Professor of Social Work (2003-12), and twice served as Head of the Department of Social and Policy Sciences. He holds degrees from the Universities of Oxford (MSc Applied Social Studies), Sussex (BA and MA Politics) and Bath (PhD). Since qualifying as a social worker he has combined an academic career with maintaining involvement in front-line mental health practice. His research interests have included professional education, social informatics and evidence-based practice in mental health. For over ten years he worked with NICE and SCIE on the integration of social care perspectives within clinical practice guidelines. Currently he is collaborating with an international team to systematically review the effectiveness of psychodynamic interventions in the reduction of suicidal and self-harming behaviours.
