Biography
I am a lecturer within Psychology at The University of Derby. I work primarily in the field of Ergonomics/Human Factors, lecturing at MSc level, but I also have some undergraduate commitments with optional third year psychology modules. On the Ergonomics & Human Factors programme I teach on a range of subjects, including - Musculoskeletal Disorders; Stress; Human Behaviour & Health; Systems; and Organisational Behaviour. I also co-ordinate MSc research projects as module leader for the Independent Studies module. My primary undergraduate work relates to the Psychology of Pain.
Research Interest
My primary research interest is in chronic musculoskeletal pain. In particular I am interested in what differentiates those that recover from those who do not - with a specific interest in beliefs about pain and associated behaviours. More broadly I am interested in chronic pain and how we can improve sufferers ability to manage their problems and improve their quality of life. I also have a keen interest in how chronic conditions can be managed in the workplace.
