Jose Arturo Garza-reyes

Biography

Prof. Jose Arturo Garza-Reyes is a Professor of Operations Management and Head of the Centre for Supply Chain Improvement at the College of Business, Law and Social Sciences, the University of Derby, UK. He holds a PhD in Manufacturing Systems and Operations Management from the University of Manchester (UK), an MBA from the University of Northampton (UK), an MSc in Production and Quality from the Autonoma de Nuevo Leon University (Mexico), a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education from the University of Derby (UK), and a BSc in Mechanical Management Engineering from the Autonoma de Nuevo Leon University (Mexico). Prof. Garza-Reyes has published a number of articles in leading international journals such as the Int. J. of Production Economics, Int. J. of Production Research, Production Planning & Control, Journal of Cleaner Production, Supply Chain Management: An International Journal, among others. He has also published a number articles in leading international conferences and three books in the areas of operations management & innovation, manufacturing performance measurement systems and quality management systems. Prof. Garza-Reyes has participated as leading guest editor for special issues in Production Planning & Control, Supply Chain Management: An International Journal, Int. J. of Lean Six Sigma, Int. J. of Lean Enterprise Research, Int. J. of Engineering Management and Economics, and Int. J. of Engineering and Technology Innovation. He is currently serving in the editorial board of several leading international journals as well as has contributed as member of the scientific and organising committees in a number of international conferences. He is also co-founder and Editor of the Int. J. of Supply Chain and Operations Resilience (Inderscience). He has also led and managed international research projects funded by the British Academy, British Council and Mexico’s National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT) and is actively involved in industrial projects. His research interests include general aspects of operations and manufacturing management, business excellence, operations and quality improvement, and performance measurement. Jose Arturo is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), a certified Six Sigma-Green Belt, and has over six years of industrial experience working as Production Manager, Production Engineer and Operations Manager for several international and local companies in both the UK and Mexico. He is also a fellow member of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a member of the Institution of Engineering Technology (MIET). 

Research Interest

Operations Management, Process Improvement and Performance Measurement Systems, particularly in Lean Operations focusing on "the study of flows and processes and their impact on sustainable and green operations", Six Sigma, Total Quality Management (TQM), Quality Control (QC), Statistical Process Control (SPC), Process Capability Analysis (PCA), Business Excellence Models (BEMs), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Discrete-event Simulation, Taguchi Methods for Design of Experiments, etc.
