Biography
I was born on 17 June 1939 in London W4, England. I studied Natural Sciences (BA, 1962) and marine geophysics (PhD, 1965) at Cambridge University, and was a member of faculty in the Department of Geology at Princeton University, N.J., USA 1965-70. There, I extended my research interests to studies of palaeomagnetism and ophiolites. I returned to the UK in 1970 to become a Reader in the School of Environmental Sciences at UEA. Since 1974 I have been a Professor in the School, and served as Dean from 1977-80 and from 1993-98.
Research Interest
Palaeomagnetism, sea floor spreading and plate tectonics, ophiolites (upthrust fragments of oceanic lithosphere exposed on land), physical properties of crustal rocks, energy resources.
