Research Interest
1. Transition metal chalcogenides for energy applications This project is pursued with a number of academics from the School of Chemistry. We aim to develop electrocatalysts for hydrogen production based on metal chalcogenides. Materials like these consist of cheap and abundant elements. We have developed a new synthetic procedure that allows us to make mixed-metal chalcogenides with defined compositions and structures, something that traditional techniques do not allow. The approach we have taken helps us to develop more efficient electrocatalysts increasing the amount of energy we can store without increasing costs. Furthermore, they can retain their transparency without impeding the catalytic function. Here are some examples of our recent research: "The direct hydrothermal deposition of cobalt-doped MoS2 onto fluorine-doped SnO2 substrates for catalysis of the electrochemical hydrogen evolution reaction"
