Biography
Donald is a lecturer in Public Health. His main interest is in the epidemiology of ageing; what are the factors which make people more or less likely to age well, mentally and physically? This research involves studying varied outcomes like cardiometabolic diseases like hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, stroke (etc.), as well as mental health outcomes like mood disorder and thinking skills ('cognitive function'). He mostly works with large epidemiological cohorts like the UK Biobank (http://www.ukbiobank.ac.uk), ALSPAC (http://www.bristol.ac.uk/alspac/) and Lothian Birth Cohort 1936 (http://www.lothianbirthcohort.ed.ac.uk/). Donald has published in journals like Neurobiology of Aging, Molecular Psychiatry and JAMA Cardiology, and presented his work publically in places like Pint of Science and Café Scientifique.
