Geoff Fowler

Biography

Graduating in Social Policy and Administration, Geoff left Leeds University to pursue a career in journalism. He worked for the Yorkshire Weekly Newspaper Group as a journalist on their flagship publication The Wakefield Express. Court and local government reporting developed his interest in law and he studied for the Common Professional Examination. On completion Geoff was inspired to teach and he obtained a post at Wakefield College where he taught law on a variety of professional and academic courses within the Business and Management School. Whilst at college he was seconded to a consortium of educational providers within the Wakefield District to act as a widening participation manager – this work saw him setting up courses in a local mosque, working men’s club and on a municipal housing estate. Following incorporation in the 90’s the Further Education sector went through a period of change and Geoff was stirred to practise the ‘lifelong learning’ he preached. This led to him to complete the part-time Legal Practice Course at The University of Huddersfield in 1997 .

Research Interest

He was appointed to The Business School as a senior lecturer within the Law School in 2007. Geoff teaches Constitutional and Administrative Law on the LLB; The Legal Environment of Business and Employment to non-law degree students and the legal element of the Year 1 Foundation Degree in Police Studies. He is an admissions tutor for the Law School. Geoff is interested in motorcycling and cycling and the impact the law has on these road users.
