Biography
I joined the Sustainability Research Institute in December 2012 as a research fellow. I'm also an associate researcher at the Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy (CCCEP). I'm a PI on a Newton Fund Climate Science for Service Partnership project looking at priorities for urban climate services development in China (2017-2019). I'm a also Co-I on two Copernicus Climate Change Service (climate.copernicus.eu) contracts: 'Sector engagement for C3S, Translating European User Requirements' (SECTEUR; 2016-2017) and 'Quality Assessment Strategies for Multi-Model Seasonal Forecasts' (QA4Seas; 2016-2018) where I lead work packages on the engagement and assessment of user requirements and climate information needs across European sectors. Previously, I was involved in the EU FP7 project European Provision Of Regional Impacts Assessments on Seasonal and decadal timescales (EUPORIAS; 2012-2017) where I coordinated the assessment of users' needs with regard to seasonal to decadal climate predictions across European sectors. I was also involved in the assessment of the value of seasonal forecasts for decision-making and in the development of the Land Management Tool to support farming-related decisions in the UK. Prior to my work at Leeds, I completed my PhD in Scotland on climate change vulnerability and adaptation funded by the Scottish Alliance for Geoscience, Environment, and Society (SAGES). The PhD contributed to current understanding and knowledge of climate change vulnerability assessments (CCVA) by exploring the main challenges of performing a CCVA in Scotland and, at a more conceptual level, how the conceptual and analytical elements of CCVA described in the literature as critical can be pursued in practice, and the existing agency at the local level in Scotland to act upon the outcomes of such assessments. Before coming to academia I worked as a policy planner in the UK focusing on developing climate change planning policies at the local level and working on related activities (public consultation, strategic environmental assessment, GIS, and monitoring). Qualifications PhD on Climate change vulnerability and adaptation (University of the West of Scotland and Edinburgh University) MSc in Spatial Planning (Oxford Brookes University) BSc in Environmental Management (Universidade Atlantica) Memberships/Fellowships Postgraduate Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society
