Biography

Elena Besley obtained her M.Sc. in Physics (1993) and Ph.D. in Physics and Mathematics (2000) from St.Petersburg State University, Russia. In 2000 she held a Royal Society/NATO postdoctoral research fellowship at the Queen's University of Belfast. There followed postdoctoral research appointments in Chemistry at the Universities of Nottingham, Sussex and Cambridge. In 2007 Elena was awarded a Royal Society UK Relocation Fellowship and moved back to Nottingham. In 2007 she was a Visiting Academic Research Fellow at the Australian National University. Prof. E. Besley was awarded an EPSRC Career Acceleration Fellowship (2008-2013) and an ERC Consolidator Grant (2013-2017). She was appointed to a Lecturer in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry at Nottingham in 2011, followed by promotion to Associate Professor in 2014 and Professor of Theoretical and Computational Chemistry in 2015. Research Interest

development of theoretical and computational approaches to prediction of materials properties; computational modelling of the behaviour, properties and manipulation of carbon nanomaterials; electrostatic interactions at the nanoscale; gas storage and interactions in porous solids.
