Biography

Dr. Dowden gained a B.Sc in Chemistry from the University of Sheffield in 1993, then moved to the University of Southampton and completed a PhD under the supervision of Prof. J. D. Kilburn in 1996. He then worked as a postdoc with Professors N. J. Turner and S. L. Flitsch at the Edinburgh Centre for Protein Technology within the Chemistry Department, University of Edinburgh for two and a half years. In 1999 he was appointed as Lecturer in Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Bath. In 2005 he moved to his present position of Lecturer in Chemical Biology at the University of Nottingham. Research Interest

Development of expedient synthesis of natural products. Developments of new synthetic methods, especially utilising pyridinium salts or beta-lactams. Design and synthesis of new enyzyme inhibitors. Especially development of novel inhibitors for protein methyltransferases. Design and synthesis of chemical probes for biological systems; Divergent synthesis; Synthesis and evaluation of signalling nucleotides and analogues; Characterisation and modulation of Protein-Protein Interactions; Protein Tyrosine Phosphatases; Developmental Biology.
