Biography
Dr. Andrew Turner is currently working as a Associate Professor in Monsoon Systems (joint with NCAS-Climate) in the Department of Meteorology, University of Reading , United Kingdom. Responsibilities: Associate Professor in Monsoon Systems Research Interests: • Fundamental monsoon processes • Tropical variability and predictability • Monsoon-ENSO teleconnections and mean state-dependence Research Projects: • Robust Spatial Projections of Real-World Climate Change (REAL Projections; 2016-2020), NERC-funed consortium led by Prof. Mat Collins at University of Exeter. Other UoR Co-Investigators are Ed Hawkins as lead and Rowan Sutton • Better understanding of Interregional Teleconnections for prediction in the Monsoon and Poles (BITMAP; 2016-2019) under the Belmont Forum/JPI-Climate Collaborative Research Action on Climate Predictability and Interregional linkages. Co-Investigators are Len Shaffrey (UoR), Valerio Lucarini (Hamburg), Ashis Mitra and EN Rajagopal (NCMRWF, India) • Interaction of Convective Organisation and Monsoon Precipitation, Atmosphere, Surface and Sea (INCOMPASS, 2015-2018). This project involves a ground and airborne field campaign in 2016, using the FAAM aircraft • CSSP-Tibetan Plateau (MESETA, 2015-2018), investigating the relative role of dynamic and thermodynamic forcing on the Asian monsoon and participating in the Global Monsoon MIP, and understanding Tibetan Plateau Vortices (TPVs) and their downstream impacts on East Asia. Project PI is Dr Reinhard Schiemann • CSSP Drivers of variability in the East Asian monsoon (DREAM, 2015-2018). Project PI is Dr Nick Klingaman. With Co-Is Prof. Pier-Luigi Vidale and Dr Marie-Estelle Demory • Improving Model Processes for African climate (IMPALA; 2015-2018) project under the DFID/NERC Future Climate For Africa (FCFA) programme (led by Dr Richard Graham/Dr Cath Senior at the Met Office • Monsoon Mission: India Ministry of Earth Science (MoES) (2014-2017) Other interests: • Associate Editor of the Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society • Co-chair of the WCRP GEWEX/CLIVAR Monsoons Panel .
