Biography

Charmi Patel received her PhD in Organisational Behaviour, and an MSc in Human Resource Management from Aston Business School, Aston University. Prior to joining Henley Business School, she was an Assistant Professor/Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh Business School within Organisation Studies Group. There she was also the Programme Director, for MSc in International Human Resource management having designed and launched the MSc programme from its inception until 2016. Her research following through from her PhD looks at how individuals relate to their work, occupations and organisations. Specifically, she examines these issues within the context of human resource management and organisational behavior. She has published articles in leading scholarly journals including the Human Resource Management (US, FT-45), Journal of World Business, Human Resource Management Review, International Journal of Human Resource Management, and European Journal of International Management. Moreover, she’s also part of the executive committee of Indian Academy of Management (INDAM) at the Academy of Management (AOM) and Aston India Foundation for Applied Research (AIFAR) having been instrumental in creating and functioning of both these global research centers. Charmi is an award-winning teacher who has taught courses such as HR outsourcing, developing skills for business leadership, global talent management, strategic management, strategic human resource management and methods of research at undergraduate as well as postgraduate level (MSc and MBA). She has worked in human resources for 3G Telecom (India); Barclay's (U.K.), Spancotele (U.K.) and as a consultant to a range of business process outsourcing (BPO) firms in India.

Research Interest

Her research and teaching interests include strategic and international human resource management, field research methods (both qualitative and quantitative), and the sociology and social psychology of organisations. Her research is interdisciplinary in nature, importing sensibilities from sociology, psychology as well as management to better understand the employee-organisation relationship. She conducts research in the following areas in cross-cultural contexts: -International and Strategic Human Resource Management -Employee-Organisation Relationship -Organisational Behaviour -Organisational Theory -Field Research Methods
