Biography
Dr. Tim Williams is currently working as a Associate Professor in the Department of Institute of Education, University of Reading , United Kingdom. Responsibilities: • Leader PGCert SENCO. • MA Module Convenor - Autism (EDM077). Research groups / Centres: • Berkshire Autism Research Network (BARN ) • Centre for Literacy and Multilingualism • Psychopathology & Affective Neuroscience
Research Interest
Areas of Interest: Developmental psychopathology especially those disorders such as obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) where a major symptom is repetitive behaviour: 1. OCD related research. 2. Morphing - the belief that one might be changed through contact with undesirable things/people. I have been involved clinically and in research in to how this affects children. 3. Intrusive thoughts especially musical ones (earworms). 4. Cognitive behaviour Therapy for OCD: Autism Spectrum Disorders - how can this be adapted or changed to take account of the specific difficulties that people with ASD have with talking and making a relationship - both of which are components of cognitive behaviour therapy. 5. Habit disorders aka Impulse Control Disorders aka Repetitive Behaviour Disorders: (i) Nail biting aka onychophagia - why do people bite their nails. (ii) Hair pulling aka trichotillomania.
