Biography
Gunnar Rimmel is a full professor and holds the Chair in Accounting at Henley Business School, University of Reading, UK. He previously worked in Sweden as full professor in Accounting at Jönköping International Business School and Gothenburg Research Institute at the University of Gothenburg. He received his PhD in 2003 for the thesis “Human Resource Disclosures” from the School of Business at the School of Business, Economics and Law at Gothenburg University in Sweden. He published articles in international academic journals like Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy or Accounting Forum. Further, he has contributed with more than twenty book chapters in international books. During the past ten years he was leading research programmes "Accounting for Sustainability - communication through integrated reporting", “Accounting Communications - trust in numbers, text and images”, “Accounting Communication II – practice and change” that attracted 5.7 MSEK in competitive external funding by the Handelsbanken research foundations, as well as from the NASDAQ OMX Nordic Foundation. In addition to serving on the editorial boards of journals he is co-editor (with Kristina Jonäll) of the Swedish textbook “Redovisningsteorier – viktiga begrepp och teoretiska perspektiv inom redovisning (Accounting Theories – important concepts and theoretical perspectives in accounting”). He is active in a number of associations. Specifically, to mention his commitments for the European Accounting Association (EAA), organising as Secretary General the EAA's 28th Annual Congress in Gothenburg 2005, having been part EAA management board, been Co-Chair and Chair of the conference committee, and now as member of the Scientific Committee. He is board member of the British Accounting & Finance Association’s (BAFA) Financial Accounting and Reporting Special Interest Group, as well as board member of BAFA’s Corporate Governance Special Interest Group. He is proud to be CSEAR Council member for the international research and networking institution Centre for Social and Environmental Accounting Research.
Research Interest
His research and teaching interests include accounting communication, human resource accounting, international financial accounting and social and environmental reporting, specifically integrated reporting.
