Biography

Dr. Professor Helen Parish is currently working as a Head of Department in the Department of History, University of Reading , United Kingdom. Responsibilities: Undergraduate Teaching I currently teach courses on European History 1450-1600, the Reformation in Europe, and Ritual Myth and Magic in Early Modern Europe. I also contribute to first year teaching in medieval and early modern Europe. Research groups / Centres: Research Statement My main research interests lie in Early Modern relogious and cultural history, particularly the Reformation in England and Europe. After completing a study of clerical marriage in the era of the Reformation, my recent research has focused upon Reformation perceptions of the medieval past, with a particular interest in the lives of the saints and the English Church, and attitudes to miracles and magic in the early modern period. Current projects include a history of clerical celibacy in the west, under contract with Ashgate, and an edition of the selected works of the English Protestant polemicist John Bale. I am also co-editing a volume of essays exploring concepts of authority in the Reformation.

Research Interest
