Biography
My academic interests focus on midwifery practice and policy, strategic leadership, risk management, qualitative research methodologies, and I continue to teach at every level on undergraduate and taught postgraduate midwifery and leadership programmes.
Research Interest
My professional background is in midwifery care and practice. The focus for my research interest is on practice development through action research and action learning. My PhD study examined the evolving roles of a group of education and practice development midwives as they led change in clinical practice. This developed my capability in facilitation and coaching for leadership roles in the clinical environment and led me to enjoy and use appreciative inquiry approaches to learning and change. My recent research with Rose McCarthy was a funded project (£250K) which examined the use of a professionally moderated social media site to inform and empower women on their journey into motherhood. The first publication 'Midwifery continuity: the use of social media' appeared in Midwifery 2017.
