Biography
I have a background in general Nursing and have Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees in Computer Science from the University of Manchester, UK. I have over 25 years experience of theoretical and applied research in Health Informatics, with a particular focus on Health Records and Terminologies. I hold an adjunct position of Professor at the University of Colorado, Denver, USA and have previously held eHealth leadership roles at the UK Royal College of Nursing and the International Council of Nurses. I have published widely and am asked regularly to speak at conferences and seminars. I am Editor-in-Chief of Informatics for Health and Social Care, a member of national and international standards bodies and think tanks, and I regularly provide advice to organisations such as the UK Department of Health on informatics issues.
Research Interest
My research interests are around Health Informatics or eHealth with a particular emphasis on supporting practice and care. My main area of expertise is around standardized languages that support clinical applications of information and communication technology.
