Biography
After 11 years in children’s and intensive care nursing, and 14 years in nurse education, I joined the University in 2002 as Senior Lecturer in Child Health Research. In 2006 I was appointed Professor of Child & Family Health. I am the Director of CYP@Salford: a multi-professional research group focused on enhancing services, improving outcomes and evidencing impacts on children and families. I am a leader in research and professional issues among colleagues in Britain and Ireland. I work with colleagues to develop novel means of engagement and research with children and young people, especially with a mobile research laboratory. Research Interest
My research is in improving quality of life outcomes for survivors of childhood brain tumour; and enhancing the impact of interventions in services for neglected children and those at risk of abuse. I review grants for 8 government funding bodies, have acquired £2.1million in 33 research grants; supervised 16 doctoral students to completion; and published 128 books, chapters, peer-reviewed articles, research reports, and other papers.
