Biography
Dr Luke Myers is Associate Professor within Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton.
Research Interest
Luke began his research in 1999 investigating performance of free stream tidal turbines. This area of research has grown significantly since then with large-scale demonstrator devices installed around the world in recent years. â–º Luke has experience in turbine performance, resource analysis and structural dynamics whilst much of his recent activity has been with turbulent effects in arrays or farms of devices and how to optimally arrange them. It is not a simple problem; Luke and his group have published a number of high-impact papers on the subject in recent years. Industrial collaboration is a key element of his research ensuring that academic work is always working towards the needs of industry. Energy and buildings is another area of research where Luke has an interest. He has conducted work regarding the energy yields of microwind turbines in different terrain and is also interested in the energy use and generation for commercial or multiple-occupancy buildings.
