Biography
Following his undergraduate degree in History, Philosophy and Political Sciences at the Free University Berlin, he had the pleasure of embarking on a joint, bi-institutional PhD (co-tutelle de thèse) in History between the Technical University Berlin and the Université Paris IV, Panthéon-Sorbonne. Before joining the School of History in 2006, he taught for three years in Berlin, between 2004 and 2006 at the former Berlin School for Comparative European History (BKVGE).
Research Interest
Bernhard Struck research interests are perhaps best defined broadly as late modern European history from the mid eighteenth century onward. Key to my research are the German lands, in particular their relations to France and Poland. The thread that runs through my research can be defined through the following perspectives: space, comparative and transnational history. All these elements are reflected in my teaching. More recently my interests in transnational history have inspired a co-taught module with Dr Konrad Lawson on Doing and Practicing Transnational & Global History.
