Biography
Frank Lorenz Müller went to St Andrews in 2002, having completed his first degree at the Free University of Berlin and a doctorate at Oxford University. Before taking up his appointment here he was a post-doctoral researcher (Junior Research Fellow) at University College Oxford. His teaching covers various aspects of European history from 1815 to the Second World War. He was particularly interested in the political and cultural history of Germany and Britain and in their mutual relationship. My research focuses on nationalism, liberalism, imperialism, militarism, foreign policy, biography and the role of monarchy throughout the nineteenth century. He look forward to discussing research projects falling into these areas with potential postgraduate students. In June 2011 he published a study of the German Emperor Frederick III and he was curently developing the wider issues identified in this work through an AHRC-funded five-year project exploring the roles played by heirs to the throne in the constitutional monarchies of 19th-century Europe.
