Biography
I currently hold the role of Faculty Academic Director for External Engagement in the faculty of Business and Law and was previously Academic Director for the Department of Business and Management. I am a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I am the author of a leading HRM textbook ('An Introduction to Human Resource Management', Sage Publications) and am currently working on a title on Human Resource Development. During my time at UWE, I have occupied a variety of roles, including research associate, senior lecturer and associate head of department, and have extensive teaching experience at both postgraduate and undergraduate level. I currently lead an undergraduate module in 'Human Resource Development and Knowledge Management'. I am a member of the Centre for Employment Studies Research at UWE. My research interests lie primarily in the area of the graduate labour market, employability, skills, careers and career self-management and the relationship between higher education and the labour market. I have worked on a range of research projects in this area for a range of funding bodies including the Department for Education and Skills, European Social Fund and the Economic and Social Research Council, and have presented at conference across Europe and the US, published in a range of leading journals in the field of work sociology and higher education and reviews articles for a range of journals in the fields of HRM, higher education and workplace learning and development.
