Ian Lahart

Biography

Ian Lahart is a senior lecturer in Sport and Exercise Physiology, course leader of BSc sport and exercise science, and module leader of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year Physiology modules at the University of Wolverhampton. He has taught on undergraduate sports science modules since 2005. Ian completed his PhD on physical activity and breast cancer in 2014. He has a number of publications in peer-reviewed journals with high im­pact factors in the area of exercise and chronic disease, and has presented his work at a number of research conferences, including the British Association of Sport and Exercise Science, American College of Sports Medicine and Physiology Society annual conferences. As part of his studies he led a randomised controlled trial aimed at increasing the levels of physical activity and quality of life of breast cancer patients post-treatment. Ian has worked within the NHS for the past six years as a research fellow at Russells Hall hospital. He was involved in the setting up of and helps manage a MacMillan funded exercise-based cancer rehabilitation service in Action Heart, a cardiac rehabilitation center in Russells Hall Hospital. Previous research has taken Ian to America, where he provided both sports science support to and collected data from four cyclists who completed the Race Across America (RAAM) as part of a four-man team. Ian assisted the riders as they cycled from California to Maryland (3000 miles) in just six and a half days. On a personal level, Ian is a competing triathlete.
