Biography
Suzanne joined the Institute of Education in 2012 as a senior lecturer and subject lead for Primary English. She teaches on the undergraduate and postgraduate English modules and the undergraduate Professional Studies Programme and is currently Interim Course Leader for the BA (hons) Primary Initial Teacher Education (with QTS). Her desire to work in initial teacher education has always been driven by her enthusiasm for developing the teaching and learning of the next generation of outstanding teachers and she is particularly passionate about the teaching of English in primary school. She spent 20 years working in primary schools and has had experience teaching all year groups ranging from Nursery to Year 6. During her career in primary education, she has been part of a number of management teams in various roles and has spent the majority of her career as both an English subject leader and Ethnic Minority Achievement co-ordinator across the primary age phase. Her work in these areas led to a part-time secondment to the Local Authority (Dudley) as a Literacy Consultant whilst maintaining her teaching position within school. During this time, she was successful in gaining Advanced Skills Teacher Status and has supported many schools and leadership teams in this capacity.
