Biography

 Grady W. (Skip) Philips, III, serves as senior vice president at Valley Health System and president of Winchester Medical Center. He joined the Valley Health team in 2013 with 27 years of executive experience as a corporate officer, chief executive, and administrator of healthcare facilities providing a continuum of services from acute care to rehabilitation and retirement communities. Philips has a strong track record of operational skill, financial acumen, positive physician relations and community involvement. Philips began his career with Riverside Health System (VA) as an administrative resident with his last role as senior vice president and COO, and he worked in various executive roles during his 20 year tenure with Riverside. He also served as administrator, COO and CEO at Houston Healthcare in Warner Robins, GA. Prior to joining Valley Health, Philips was the CEO for LifePoint Hospitals’ Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County (VA). Philips is passionate about being part of the ministry of Healthcare and making the community healthier through people and relationships. During his career, he has served in numerous community, church, civic and business organizations, including United Way, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Healthy Families, Virginia Association of Free Clinics and local Free Clinic boards, Healthy Workforce, and arts and education. Throughout his community involvement and service, he has focused on connecting the work of the healthcare team with the community. Philips graduated from Emory University in Atlanta, with bachelor’s degrees in Chemistry and History, and earned a Master of Business Administration and a Masters of Healthcare Administration from Georgia State University, also in Atlanta. He is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
