Biography
Alan Buckle’s career has involved nearly 40 years of work on rodents and rodenticides. He started testing novel poisons against resistant rats for the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, based at the Tolworth Laboratory. He then worked for ICI, Zeneca and, latterly, Syngenta as R&D Manager for the Public Health business. During that time he visited more than 60 countries to tackle rodent problems as varied as rat plagues in Indonesian oil palm plantations and rats eating endangered seabird chicks in the Galapagos.
Research Interest
Now a consultant, Alan is chairman of the Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use (CRRU) and the UK Rodenticide Resistance Action Group (RRAG). He is also Visiting Research Fellow at the Vertebrate Pests Unit, University of Reading. Alan has written more than a hundred articles and papers on rodents and rodent control. The second edition of his book, jointly edited with Prof. Rob Smith, ‘Rodent Pests and their Control’ will be published shortly by CAB International.
