David Glen

Biography

A graduate of the University of Glasgow, for the past 30 years David has specialised in the ecology, behaviour and integrated control of slugs as crop pests. Until 2002 he was based at Long Ashton Research Station (LARS) investigating the influences of farming practices on slugs, together with chemical and biological control (predators and parasites). During this time he led studies at LARS in collaboration with industry that resulted in the discovery of slug-parasitic nematodes and their development as a product for biocontrol of slug damage, widely used in private gardens and higher value crops.

Research Interest

Since 2002 Dr Glen has worked as an independent research consultant for public and commercial organisations in Europe and Australia. During this time he was lead scientist in a Link project on integrated slug control in arable crops (HGCA Project Report No. 393). He is also a Fellow of the Society of Biology and the Royal Entomological Society. I was honorary professor at Cardiff University for ten years to 2008.
