Khalid Barakat

Biography

Khalid Barakat read Medicine at Trinity College Oxford and Guys and St Thomas’ Medical Schools, qualifying as a doctor in 1991. He has been practicing as a Consultant Cardiologist for ten years treating private patients in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and West London. He is also a Consultant Cardiologist at Heatherwood and Wexham Park NHS Trust in Slough.

Research Interest

His specialist interests within cardiology are interventional cardiology (coronary angioplasty and stent insertion), permanent pacemaker implantation and transoesophageal echo. He was instrumental in repatriating services from London to a local setting which has been highly beneficial and popular for the local patient population. He has an active interest in teaching and is currently completing a postgraduate certificate in medical simulation and hopes to build and run a cardiac catheter lab simulation centre within East Berkshire. He hopes that this will benefit patients through improved safety in team working within the catheter lab environment.
