Biography
Dr. Backlund is a specialist in emergency medicine. He evaluates and treats emergency department patients to rule out and stabilize life-threatening conditions. He is an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Washington and the associate director of emergency ultrasound for the UW Department of Emergency Medicine. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Washington in Seattle and his medical degree from the University of Iowa in Iowa City. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at the University of California, San Diego. He did a fellowship in Emergency Ultrasound at Denver Health Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Backlund has practiced emergency medicine at community hospitals in Kailua and Wahiawa on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, as well as in California and Washington. He joined the academic faculty of the University of Colorado following his fellowship, during which time he held the position of assistant director of emergency ultrasound. He moved to Seattle in 2010 to join the faculty of the UW Department of Emergency Medicine. He currently serves as associate director of emergency ultrasound. He is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Medicine and is board certified in emergency medicine.
