Linda L. Chavez

Biography

 Ms. Linda L. Chavez has been the Director of the Office of Public Liaison for the White House since 1985. Ms. Chavez has extensive experience in corporate governance. Ms. Chavez has a long and distinguished record in both public service and private enterprise. She served as a Vice President and Branch Manager at First Federal Bank of Colorado, wholly owned subsidiary of First Colorado Bancorp. Ms. Chavez has been Independent Director of ABM Industries Incorporated since 1997 and Greyhound Lines Inc since November 21, 1995. She has been a Director of Research Electro-Optics Inc., since March 5, 2012. Ms. Chavez served as an Outside Director of Pilgrim's Corp., since July 2004. She has been the President of the Center for Equal Opportunity since 1997. She is a Staff Director of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. She has held a number of appointed positions, among them Chairman of National Commission on Migrant Education from 1988 to 1992. She was the U.S. expert to the United Nations' Human Rights Sub-Commission. Ms. Chavez was a Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research from 1988 to 1995. She serves on the Boards of several non-profit organizations, including the Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy. She was a Director of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, from 1983 to 1985. She writes a syndicated newspaper column and has contributed articles to the USA Today, Wall Street Journal, The New Republic and the Washington Post. She was the highest ranking woman to serve in the Reagan White House (as Director of Public Liaison), and was the first Latina ever nominated to the United States Cabinet. Ms. Chavez has appeared on The McLaughlin Group and NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. In 2000, she was honored by the Library of Congress as a "Living Legend" for her contributions to America's cultural and historical legacy. Ms. Chavez is an author and nationally syndicated Columnist and Television Commentator. Ms. Chavez is a Political Commentator. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Colorado. She received graduate from UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management in 2006.
