Biography
Dr. Joshua Makower, also known as Josh, M.D., M.B.A., has been a General Partner of New Enterprise Associates (NEA) since June 11, 2015. Dr. Makower has been working closely with NEA since his time as firm's Entrepreneur-in-Residence back in 1995. He is a Key Member of NEA's healthcare team and focuses primarily on medical devices and consumer health technologies. He founded Coravin, Inc. in 2011. He serves as an Executive Director at Nuelle, Inc. He is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer at ExploraMed Development, LLC. He co-founded Neo Tract, Inc. and also serves as its Chairman of the Board. He co-founded NeoTract, Inc. in 2004 and serves as its Chairman. He was a Venture Partner at New Enterprise Associates since joining in September 2004. Until 1995, he was the Founder and Manager of Pfizer's Strategic Innovation Group. He has founded several companies. He co-founded Acclarent, Inc. in 2000 and has been its Chairman since November 2004. He serves as the Chairman of Dots Technology Corp. and Moximed, Inc. He was Founder and Chairman of EndoMatrix. He was the Founder of TransVascular and served as its Chairman and Chief Technical Officer. He serves as the Chairman of Dots Devices, Inc. He served as the Chairman and Director of Vibrynt, Inc. from March 2006 to January 2012. He has been a Director of SetPoint Medical Corporation since March 2017. He serves as a Director of Coravin, Inc. Ceterix, Inc., NC7 Inc., ExploraMed NC7, Inc., ExploraMed IV, Intrinsic Therapeutics, Inc. and Eargo. He served as a Director of IRIDEX Corporation from 1997 to June 2005 and Vibrynt, Inc. from 2006 to 2012. He serves on the faculty of the Stanford University Medical School as a Consulting Professor of Medicine and is Co-Founder of Stanford's Biodesign Innovation Program. He was featured at Innovation in Urology Forum. He holds over 100 patents for various medical devices in the fields of cardiology, ENT, general surgery, drug delivery, obesity, orthopedics, women's health and urology. Dr. Makower holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from the New York University School of Medicine, an M.B.A. from Columbia University and a B.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
